The National Endowment for the Arts (NEA), in partnership with the Mid-America Arts Alliance (M-AAA) has opened applications for its Creative Forces Community Engagement grant program.

Established in 2017, the Creative Forces initiative invests in non-clinical community-based arts programming for military and veteran communities, including family members and caregivers. In the last three years, NEA has funded more than 100 Creative Forces grants. Last year, Art Spark Texas and Killeen Creators were among the grant recipients.

Supported programs address the unique experiences, challenges, and strengths of the military-connected population and take place in healthcare, community, or virtual environments.  Specifically, projects should focus on one or more of the following outcomes: creative expression, social connectedness, resilience, and independence/successful adaptation to civilian life.

The Creative Forces grants are available in two categories, emerging and advanced. Grants in the emerging category will be made in support of organizations to develop and implement new non-clinical arts engagement programs or for small organizations. Selected projects are required to have a matching grant of up to $10,000. Grants in the advanced category are meant to support organizations with established arts programming for the military community. Selected projects are expected to have a matching grant between $10,000 and $25,000 for one-year projects or up to $50,000 for two-year projects.

The deadline to apply is Wednesday, January 15, 2025. Funding will support projects beginning on or after July 1, 2025. Learn more about the Creative Forces Community Engagement grant program and submit a grant application via the M-AAA website.
