Austin exhibition and community space DORF has announced an open call for its new Fellowship in Professional Practice program.
Artists residing in Travis County and surrounding counties of Hays, Bastrop, Caldwell, and Williamson are eligible to apply for the year-long mentorship program that includes a $5,500 honorarium and solo exhibition opportunity. Applicants must be age 21 and over and not currently enrolled in academic programs.
DORF was opened in 2018 in the shared studio of artists Sara Vanderbeek and Eric Manche, and recently announced a move to the Zilker Point neighborhood, with a new space to include a 1,062-square-foot gallery, rooftop garden, outdoor plaza for performances, and a permanent sculpture by Dallas artist Jessica Bell.
The new DORF Fellowship in Professional Practice centers on professional development, networking, and a culminating solo exhibition in Fall 2025. The professional development facet includes participation in the 2025 Mid-America Arts Alliance Artist Leadership Fellowship, an eight-week program designed to hone leadership and career management skills running January 27 to March 31, 2025.
In a press release, DORF noted that it “strongly encourages applications from historically underrepresented and marginalized artists whose work aligns with [the organization’s] values to foster social justice, amplify marginalized voices, and promote community dialogue.”
The Fellowship selection panel features artists, curators and writers including Ms. Vanderbeek, Mr. Manche, DORF Advisory Council members Alexis Hunter, Paloma Mayorga, and Lise Ragbir, as well as Emmy Laursen, a DORF Board Member and Curator of Public Programs at The Contemporary Austin.
The application is free, open now through January 13, 2025 at 11:59 p.m. CST. Applicants will be notified by January 24, 2025.
