This Thursday: Join Glasstire for a Screening of “Breaking the Code: The Art of Vernon Fisher”

This Thursday, December 19, from 7-8:30 p.m., join Glasstire at Basket Books & Art in Houston for a free screening of Michael Flanagan’s film, Breaking the Code: The Art of Vernon Fisher. Winner of several awards including “Best Historical Film” at the 2023 Dallas International Film Festival, Breaking the Code is a documentary about Texas artist Vernon Fisher (1943-2023) that utilizes rare archival materials and interviews with the artist and his contemporaries to introduce Fisher to a new generation, while also giving the many who already know his work an intimate look at his life and art. Glasstire is the exclusive digital distributor for the film.

After the screening, Glasstire’s Publisher, Brandon Zech, will host a talkback with director Michael Flanagan.

About the Speakers
Michael Flanagan is a filmmaker from McAllen, TX. Michael works as a Project Manager for the River Pierce Foundation, writes on Texas visual art for Glasstire, and has taught courses in Media Arts at the University of North Texas. His films have been screened internationally at spaces including the Laemmle Theater in Los Angeles, the Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth, Cadogan Contemporary in London, Club de l’Étoile in Paris, and the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston.

Brandon Zech joined Glasstire in 2015 as the publication’s Assistant Editor. In 2018 he began overseeing the publication’s news content as Glasstire’s first dedicated News Editor, and he replaced the site’s founding Publisher, Rainey Knudson, in 2019. In the role of Publisher, Brandon oversees Glasstire’s day-to-day operations, fundraising, sponsorship, and partnerships. He also contributes podcasts and articles to the site. He is a graduate of the University of Houston.
