Belgian artist Luc Tuymans is known for his distinctive painting style, and for his choice of historically and emotionally charged subject matter. As the thirty paintings in the exhibition reveal, the artist derives his images from such pre-existing sources as photographs and film stills. Menil director Josef Helfenstein and Toby Kamps, Menil curator of modern and contemporary art, will talk with Luc Tuymans about his portraiture, and about the works he has selected from Menil’s permanent collection to exhibit with his portraits.
