Experiments with Truth: Gandhi and Images of Nonviolence

What does peace look like? This show explores the resonance in the visual arts of Gandhi’s ethics of nonviolence.

Opening: October 02, 2014 | 6-9 pm
Filmmaker Amar Kanwar and Menil Director Josef Helfenstein discuss the show at 6 pm, followed by a reception from 7-9 pm.

Performance: November 21, 2014 | 7-8 pm
The Black Monks of Mississippi, the experimental musical ensemble organized by exhibiting artist Theaster Gates, brings together Eastern ideals of melodic restraint with the spirit of gospel and the deeply rooted American tradition of the blues.

Performance: January 24, 2015 | 3-5 pm
"Dances to Songs Beloved by Gandhi" performance in the museum foyer.
