Dissent and Desire


January 19 - April 29,2018

Dissent and Desire features a selection of 48 photographs and companion text pieces by artists and collaborators Sunil Gupta and Charan Singh. The works explore the lives, daily routines, and homes of LGBTQ+ individuals in India. The exhibition also includes a video piece documenting the narratives of some of the individuals recurring in the photographic work.

Opening: January 19, 2018 | 6-9 pm
CAMH Director Bill Arning and Assistant Curator Patricia Restrepo will introduce the exhibition at 7PM

Conversation: March 02, 2018 | 12-1 pm
Art at Noon: Ashlyn Davis, the Executive Director of Houston Center for Photography, will discuss documentary photography and the documentary aesthetic in relation to the exhibition Dissent and Desire

Workshop: March 03, 2018 | 2-4 pm
Open Studio: Using prompts from CAMH's Teen Council, create a character and first-person narrative as you imagine the mundane (but interesting!) details of your character's daily life
