A curated group exhibition. Artists: Aimée M. Everett, Alicia Philley, Caroline Walker, Linda Wandt and Thomas Cook From the Art Center: “Ingrained” is a show of five artists with differing styles and subjects who are united by their use of a common material: Wood. The paintings and sculptures created for this exhibition highlight the wood grain of panels to explore a range of viewpoints and topics. From questioning how humans communicate and connect, to interpreting nature and exploring humanity's impact on it, the concepts feel even more relevant in the current times of Covid and mass social justice demonstrations. Colorful abstractions, brooding landscapes, hyper-realistic insects, stark geometric paintings and undulating wood sculptures that instantly come alive through an app: While each artist embraces a different visual style, look closer and you’ll find they are bound together by integrating the tree’s lifelines and story with their own. The Georgetown Art Center is currently open for limited viewing hours, with reduced capacity for social distancing. A video tour will be available once the exhibition opens.
