A Feeling of Humanity: The Ken Ratner Collection

October 09 - December 23,2020

A group exhibition organized by the Museum of the Big Bend. From the Museum: "This exhibition explores and celebrates the beautiful in the ordinary with work by both contemporary artists and early 20th century painters including Kenneth Miller Adams, John Sloan, Boardman Robinson and Bettina Steinke. Works by Texas artists Julie Davis, Tony Eubanks, David Forks and V…. Vaughan are also featured. About the collection Ratner says, "I made a conscientious effort to collect the work of contemporary western artists whose work evoked a strong emotional response within me. I look for subject matter that seems ordinary, but the skill of the artists whom I have chosen to collect turn the ordinary into the extraordinary. A lone mesa, a weathered grain elevator on the plains, a farmer who pauses for a moment’s rest, either as symbols or witnesses 'celebrating the lives of ordinary Americans,' in the words of the great Walt Whitman.""
