VIVEKA BARNETT: GLAMOROUS CIVILIZATION

From the gallery: "HEIDI VAUGHAN FINE ART proudly presents Glamorous Civilization, an exhibition of new original works on paper by Viveka Barnett. The show opens Saturday, January 16, 2021, from 11 to 5 pm at the gallery, located at 3510 Lake Street at Colquitt in the Upper Kirby Galleries. The show is up through Saturday, February 20, 2021. During the opening, we will be open to the public all day, limiting the number of people in the gallery at any one time, practicing the recommended CDC safety precautions, and requiring all guests to wear a mask. Glamorous Civilization is also available to view by private appointment throughout the run of the exhibition, and also via an online Artsy exhibition. Glamorous Civilization is a collection of mixed media works that serve as a dramatic reminder of America’s past. With images reminiscent of Hollywood glamour and American history, at the core of the exhibition is a questioning of whether we are moving forward or continually repeating past mistakes and glories. Through an emotional and spiritual combination, Barnett reveals a belief in the idea of eternal recurrence, the notion that the world will repeat itself forever. This is a recurring theme in her artwork."
