From LHUCA:
"This past year, it has been nearly impossible to create art that does not reflect my experiences with the global pandemic. I have always thought of squares to be symbols of measurement, especially of units of time, and I wanted to use those elements to measure this unique historic moment. The connectivity of the paintings here functions as a reflection of this particular period of my life: my feelings and experiences, patterns and repetitions, of living through this time are used as thematic elements. Taken deeper, this piece creates a continuous stream of connected works that function as an altered timeline of art history.
In this piece, which will be the beginning of a larger set of works, I have created 38 individual paintings that work directly into the next through a combination of symbols and color. My technique combines collage from art history books, traditional brush painting, and screenprinting. Being quarantined allowed me to learn the screenprinting process, which I had never attempted before. I view this new skill as one of the positives that came out of an incredibly difficult time, one that posed unprecedented challenges for artists and also for the arts world overall."
