Steve Wolfe on Paper at The Menil Collection highlights Wolfe's works on paper which incorporate drawing, collage, and printmaking. Known for his scrupulous handmade reproductions of tattered books and worn record album covers, Wolfe employs the tradition of trompe l’oeil in his representations of literary and musical ephemera. Wolfe's autobiography is central to his practice and determines his choice of books and album covers. His literary heroes become the subject of his work and convey an intellectual self-portrait of the artist. This marks the fourth exhibition in The Menil Collection’s series, Contemporary Conversations, highlighting work by living artists in the collection.
