"In It’s No Small Thing, Fisher shares self portraits, commissioned portraits, portraits of people in her world and the occasional still life.

Sarah Fisher records the human need to be authentically seen. Painting herself and people she knows, loves and encounters, Fisher works from photography created on her cell phone. Her subjects share a strong sense of self and a willingness to be known. Saying yes to a “Sarah Fisher portrait” is a loaded proposition. It is a yes to a collaboration that begins with two questions: How would you like to be seen? How would you like to be known?  It is a yes to being photographed — when and where you choose. It is a yes to choosing what you want to wear and whether you sit or stand. It is a yes to staring at her as she looks at you on her screen. It’s intense. Then she disappears with your trust, and your vanity. Weeks, sometimes months, even years later, she reappears with your humanity — from her point of view.

Bio

Sarah Fisher records the human need to be authentically seen. A multidisciplinary artist, Fisher creates two- and three-dimensional portraits of herself and people she knows, loves and encounters, revealing her interest in how we experience — even mark — each other as individuals and as members of assigned and chosen human groups. Her subjects share a strong sense of self and a willingness to be known.

Since 2016, Fisher’s work has been exhibited across the state of Texas, most recently in Found/Loaded (2021), a joint exhibition with Lubbock fashion designer Rachel Anderson at Stephen F. Austin State University’s Cole Art Center in Nacogdoches. A catalog is forthcoming. Fisher has had solo exhibitions in Houston with Front Gallery (The Second Yes, 2019) and Art Palace Gallery (Seen, 2017). Group exhibitions include The Texas National (2019) in Nacogdoches, 44 Artists from Texas (2018)"
