Lance Letscher: INTAGLIO - Prints and Drawings

October 16 - November 30,2021

From Flatbed Center for Contemporary Printmaking:

"Flatbed is proud to present INTAGLIO, an exhibition of prints and drawings by Austin artist Lance Letscher.  Letscher, who is widely known for his collage work, has artistic roots in printmaking. In 2020, he began a period of experimentation at Flatbed using intaglio printmaking techniques.   Intaglio is an Italian term that describes a design incised or engraved into a material and so it covers many printmaking techniques which either by hand or acid incise a metal matrix that can be inked and printed onto paper.  He has experimented with all ways of creating an intaglio image:  drypoint, aquatint, line etching, soft ground etching, color etching, scraping, and burnishing. and has experimented with printing impressions of his images onto paper, using a wide array of colors and inking techniques.

Letscher’s resulting intaglio works are straight-foreword and unpretentious. They play with color, they play with line, they play with vision,  they play.  They give us permission to enter a world of line and color that is beyond the narrative.  Always contrasting chaos with structure, Letscher invites us to play in the line-scape and be lost for a moment in his world.   “In all chaos there is a cosmos, in all disorder a secret order.” Carl Jung, Archetypes of the Collective Unconscious."
