February 21 - May 23,2010

The Lens of Impressionism: Photography and Painting Along the Normandy Coast, 1850-1874 includes almost one hundred works including paintings, drawings, photographs and prints that focus on a single geographic location that was extensively explored in the second half of the 19th century- The Coast of Normandy. These works investigate the dramatic impact this locale had on Early Impressionism. Artists exhibited include Claude Monet, Edouard Manet and Gustave Courbet. This exhibition is organized by the University of Michigan Museum of Art, where it opened in October 2009.
