THE ART OF FOUR ARTIST RECEPTION

December 09 - December 09,2021

From Artpace: "On Thursday, December 9,  Artpace will host an artist reception for The Art of Four, which will include a pop up by artists,  free food and drinks from local Black-owned businesses, Sweet Yams and Weathered Souls, and live music by DJ Jevonchi. Participating artists include: Akaimi Davis, Alethia Jones, Claudette Hopkins, Clyde D Lewis, Delone’ Osby, Drew “Yodi” Johnson, Kaldric Dow, Kwanzaa Edwards, Nakia The Artist, Ronney Edwards, Scott Kengart, Wardell Picquet, Cheryl Handy, Hoi Ellis, Kim Crittenden, and Roger Price. This event is free and open to the public. The Art of Four were selected as a beneficiary for Alisha B. Wormsely’s There are Black People in the Future, currently on view at Artpace as part of the Texas Biennial. Alisha B. Wormsley’s There are Black People in the Future is inspired by afro-futurist artists and writers who highlight the need for Black people to claim their place. Through the inscription and utterance of the words, ‘There are Black People in the Future,’ the project addresses systemic oppression of Black communities through space and time by reassuring the presence of Black bodies. The text, which Wormsley encourages others to use freely, has since been used in protest, critical art theory, essays, song, testimony, and collective dreaming. Alisha’s installation will also be activated in San Antonio through a community partnership with The Art of Four through the sales of yard signs using the same text. Signs will be sold for $25 with proceeds going to The Art of Four and can be purchased here or in-person at Artpace."
