April 02 - June 28,2022
To register for the upcoming performance activation event with Body as a Crossroads in collaboration with DiverseWorks on April 12, 2022, go here. From Redbud Gallery: "Redbud Gallery is pleased to present Willie and Shirley's Son, an exhibition by Houston artist Anthony Suber. On view at our west gallery from April 2 through June 28, 2022. Texas native Anthony Suber is a Southern based multimedia artist who defines himself as an American visual griot. His work is derived from his personal perspective and experience of spirituality, cross-generational relationships, history, and narratives he heard as a child. Suber is a graduate of the University of Houston with a BFA in studio art with an MFA from Houston Baptist University. Outside of his studio practice, Suber has served almost two decades as a fine arts educator in Texas. He also is a co-founder of the Houston based non-profit organization "The Black Man Project". Artist Statement: Child-like exploration, anthropological discovery, and mysticism are what stitches together my work. Through re-interpreting iconography from the African diaspora, language and movement and the reference of living elements, I explore ways to preserve what has been (history) while conveying our connections to the now (present) and what can be (future).
