Angel Faz: Dreamers/Soñadores

"The Oak Cliff Cultural Center is pleased to share the work of multi-disciplinary artist Angel Faz in a special two-week exhibition.  Faz’ exhibition includes original works from their Dreamers project, a socially engaged investigation of gentrification and displacement in communities.  

 Originally exhibited at Kinfolk House as part of the group exhibit Congregate in summer 2022, Dreamers

engaged with the communities in the Polytechnic and Stop Six neighborhoods of Fort Worth, Texas. Connecting with local business owners in the neighborhood, Faz hand carved 6 x 4-foot portraits of them on wood panels, highlighting the community and creating a connection between the gallery and the neighborhood. For their exhibition at the Oak Cliff Cultural Center, Faz will continue this series by creating portraits of Oak Cliff business owners and developing a zine to highlight the small businesses in their community.   Their aim in creating this work is “to stop gentrification by showing these businesses immense value in our communities”.

Angel Faz is a multi-disciplinary artist living in Dallas’ Oak Cliff neighborhood. Their work focuses on art interventions and reclamation of public space. Their studio practice of focus has involved relief printmaking, monotypes, and silkscreen for over twenty years. In May 2018, they completed a six-week residency in Puebla, Mexico, where they spent time honing their printmaking technique, researching ancestral roots, colonization, and the stories accompanying them. Faz has achieved international recognition for their Collective Care hand-carved print upon being selected for Amplifier’s 2020 Global Call for Art. They have exhibited nationally at the Rising Star 2018 showcase at the Turner House, Kirk Hopper Fine Art in Dallas, and other galleries. Collective Care was recently included in the Prints & Photographs Division Online Catalog at the Library of Congress to preserve this historic moment in our country. Recently, Faz was a part of the inaugural Women & Their Work exhibition curated by Vicki Meek and exhibited their Dreamers project at Kinfolk House in Fort Worth, TX."
