"koelsch gallery is proud to present an exhibition of recent works by artists Kelly Moran and Carlos Hernandez in Kut Up, Kut Out - a collaborative showcase of 34 contemporary collages.
Kelly's pieces are composed from a variety of 3-D elements and mediums such as free standing paper doll cutouts, vintage paper and found objects. Moran proceeds to create timeless pieces that engage the audience to fragments of the past, evoking nostalgia and a trustworthy appreciation for the easily forgotten. With her work, Kelly guides the viewers through the parallels and intersections of present time with the 19th and 20th century.
Carlos' new conceptually layered mixed-media collages have been reconstructed from his past assemblages. From discarded and found graphics to hand-drawn elements, his work reproduces familiar and fresh images. Hernandez never fails to break the boundaries with his layered abstractions. Being the founder of Burning Bones Press, Houston's full-service community printmaking studio, Carlos is not only an artist but a mentor. Carlos Hernandez serves as a key contributor to the development, expansion, survival, and sustainability of Houston's art community. His beautiful and twisted vision is encompassed in his densely-layered pieces that form from his intuitive process. "The discipline of printmaking is the process of discovery.""
