Contemporary Conversations: John Chamberlain, American Tableau, organized by Menil curator of modern and contemporary art Franklin Sirmans, is the "third in the Menil’s Contemporary Conversations' series, a program highlighting work by living artists in the collection. The series aims to work directly with selected artists to focus on specific aspects or time periods of their production. American Tableau will present the eponymous sculpture as a single room-size installation." American Tableau was among the artist's works on display in Sculpture: John Chamberlain, 1970s & 1980s – the  inaugural exhibition curated by founding director Walter Hopps when the museum opened its doors in 1987.
