RECALLING LA ROMITA

From Flatbed Center for Contemporary Printmaking:

"La Romita School of Art in Terni, Italy is the site of Flatbed’s biennial residency in Italy.  In 2022 a group of twelve artists led by Katherine Brimberry and Suzi Davidoff met in Rome, Italy, and traveled to La Romita for a two-week residency that focused on mono-printing techniques. La Romita is the site of a 16th-century monastery now owned by the Quargnali family.  Although there have been many modifications and revisions over the centuries, much of the original structure remains intact. In 1966,  artist Enza Quargnali established La Romita School of Art open to independent and sponsored art programs.  Flatbed has led summer workshops and residencies there since 2009.

All works in this exhibition were created using monotype or mono-printing techniques. Many of the artists from Flatbed’s 2022 La Romita session, many of whom are well-known for their painting practices, have begun to incorporate printmaking into their work since the residency.
