Volume1: Rise

November 10 - December 16,2023

From Throughline:

"Throughline, a new artist-run gallery in Midtown Houston, is holding its inaugural exhibition, “Volume 1: Rise.” The exhibition highlights work from its founding members and epitomizes the spirit of the new collective: diverse, cutting-edge, and collaborative. The exhibition opening is on November 10th from 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm, and the exhibition will be on view until December 16th at their 3909 Main Street address at Isabella Court. Throughline is open Fridays and Saturdays from 12:00 pm - 6:00 pm. “Volume 1: Rise” will be followed by a second group show, “Volume 2: Run” scheduled for early 2024.

Throughline is home to a group of nationally and internationally known artists with numerous prestigious awards and grants and whose work is featured in various major collections. The collective pools resources and networks to support the creation of bold new works.  “Throughline believes that artist-run spaces are vibrant epicenters of creativity, fueling the artistic landscape with innovation and freedom of expression,” said Jonas Criscoe, a founding member of Throughline. “When venues are established and operated by artists, collaboration and forward-thinking projects emerge organically.”

Throughline accommodates experimental work and programs that aren’t always a fit for traditional galleries. “I was interested in starting a project like Throughline because it has the possibility of housing not only gallery shows but performances, artist talks, and other community programs,” said founding member Sarah Sudhoff. “My practice is multi-faceted and doesn’t neatly fit into any one genre. An artist-run space with vision and flexibility really supports my practice.”

Throughline artists: Carolina Borja, Jonas Criscoe, Margaux Crump, Diana Davis, Luisa Duarte, Jake Eshelman, Heather L. Johnson, Jeanette “Joy” Harris, Molly Koehn, Colleen Maynard, Ellen H. Ray, and Sarah Sudhoff.
