David Farrer: Mounted, but NOT Stuffed!

May 18 - June 15,2024

From Hooks-Epstein Galleries:

"Hooks-Epstein Galleries proudly presents the inaugural stateside exhibition for UK-based artist, David Farrer. An exhibition of papier-mâché sculptures, Mounted, but NOT Stuffed! will open on Saturday, May 18, 2024; the Opening Reception and Artist Meet and Greet will take place from 5:00PM–7:00PM.

David Farrer specializes in creating bespoke papier-mâché sculptures of animal “trophy heads”. The concept of these sculptures was originally inspired by his travels to South Africa, beginning in 1995. Farrer sought to encompass the ecological and environmental impacts of trophy hunting, and he has been creating collaged animal heads ever since. The recycled materials used to create the sculptures also reflect Farrer’s interest in “green” matters and sustainability. The creatures depicted by Farrer have since diversified into European and North American species.

An avid wildlife photographer and nature enthusiast, David Farrer was born in Leeds, England and raised in the picturesque, historical village of Spofforth, an area which was pivotal in cultivating his imagination and adventurous spirit. Farrer studied Foundation in Art & Design at Harrogate College (UK) from 1986-1987 and studied at the Dutch Royal Academy of Art (The Hague, Holland) in 1989. Farrer earned his BA (Hons) in Fine Art from Sunderland University (UK) in 1990. He also studied printmaking before becoming a sculptor. The work of David Farrer has been collected internationally and shown primarily in exhibitions throughout the UK; his work has also been featured in film and television. Publicly known collectors of Farrer’s work include novelist John Le Carre, late actress Carrie Fisher, fashion designer Ted Baker, The Prodigy band musician Liam Howlett, presenter and film critic Jonathan Ross, and Friends actress Helen Baxendale. Corporate collectors of his work include the Standard Chartered Bank in London, Zurich Insurance of Cologne, Germany, and The Pig Hotel Group in the UK."
