Seriously?!

August 31 - October 05,2024

From Fort Works Art: "FORT WORKS ART is thrilled to announce its upcoming group exhibition, "Seriously?!,” a group exhibition that brings together 20 artists from local, regional, and national backgrounds to explore the role of humor and satire in contemporary art. "Seriously?!" delves into how humor and satire serve as powerful tools for addressing complex societal issues. Throughout history, humor has been utilized to provide a unique lens through which we can examine and critique the world around us. From the Dadaist movement's playful irreverence during the chaos of World War I to the dark humor seen in contemporary pieces, satire in art challenges social conventions and encourages dialogue.   Humor not only makes serious topics more approachable but also fosters a sense of connection and resilience among viewers. It allows artists to address sensitive and often taboo subjects in a manner that invites reflection and conversation, breaking down barriers and reducing stigma.   The exhibition features a diverse lineup of artists who skillfully use humor and satire to engage and provoke thought. Their works, spanning various media and styles, offer fresh perspectives on themes such as consumerism, environmental issues, and social justice.   In a time when we are collectively navigating numerous challenges, this exhibition offers a much-needed respite. "Seriously?!" provides a platform to discuss important issues in a light-hearted manner, allowing us to confront hot topics with a sense of humor. It’s an opportunity to pause, reflect, and engage, in a respectful way, with art that not only entertains but also encourages meaningful dialogue about the world we live in." Participating Artists: Tatyana Alanis, Bale Creek Allen, Gerald Bell, Yeah Yeah Chloe, Chuck & George, Julia Curran, Jodi Gerbi, Joshua Goode, Shasta Haubrich, Cosmo Jones, Max Marshall, Mark Mayr, Kristin Moore, Christopher Nejara, Dizzy Orbit, Adam Palmer, Clay Stinnett, Vince Veazey, Viktor Villanueva, and Jay Wilkinson.
