From Redbud Arts Center: "Redbud Arts Center is thrilled to present "Disruption," the first solo exhibition by emerging artist Lord Karl, opening with a public reception on Saturday, November 2, from 6–9 PM. Lord Karl has quickly gained attention for his daring and unconventional approach, using brand-name leather jackets as his canvas to explore profound themes of identity, rebellion, and self-expression. His work draws inspiration from iconic artists like Gustav Klimt, Otto Dix, Hieronymus Bosch, and Karl Hofer, blending their historical influence with a distinctly modern edge. Disruption delivers a truly immersive and engaging experience, challenging the viewer to see art in unexpected places. By transforming luxury leather jackets into vehicles for artistic commentary, Lord Karl pushes the boundaries of what art can be. His work stands out not only for its striking visuals but also for the deeper message it conveys, blending high fashion with thoughtful reflection on societal norms and personal identity. This exhibition offers an exciting opportunity to witness a rising star in the art world, someone who is reimagining the intersection of art, fashion, and culture. We invite art enthusiasts, fashion lovers, and curious minds alike to join us for the opening reception and experience Lord Karl’s unique vision firsthand. Artist Statement As an artist, my job is to give you, the viewer, a new visual dialogue; a new way of experiencing art. During my research I would go to art galleries and see that the individuality and the singularity is dormant, and I say all of this with peace and love. I looked inward as a person and thought of these historical art figures that are repeatedly calling to me as a creative: Hieronymus Bosch, Gustav Klint, Otto Dix, and Karl Hofer. I chose these specific historical artists because, to me, they had the frequency I was looking for with their art being from World War 2. With their art being from this era, the pressure from human society creates a diamond, a vice, a new dialogue. That was one part of the puzzle complete in my research. The next part was a simple question; What do I like? And the answer was rock and roll. The vocabulary of rock and roll is already established, for example, Keith Richards’s scarf, Jimmy Page’s boots, and of course the leather biker jacket. By fusing these two ideas, the cause and effect has resulted in this unconventional canvas; a leather jacket with a beautifully executed painting on top of it. Please join us for the opening reception on Saturday, November 2, 6pm-9pm."
