“Texas Artists/Texas Music” at Dougherty Arts Center, Austin. Dates: September 7 – October 26, 2024.

Via the arts center:

Since Austin is a major musical hub of Texas and is considered the live music capital of the world, we are presenting an art exhibit that honors and celebrates Texas music. Many artists listen to music when they work, and the music influences or inspires the art. In this exhibit we are showing the work of 12 Texas visual artists influenced by music, musicians, or songs associated with Texas.

The concept of the show is as open and big as Texas. Each artist has chosen music, a song, or a musician associated with Texas that inspires them. What would a song lyric look like as art? What Texas musician or band do they love? Each artist has interpreted the concept according to their own unique vision. They may have picked a song associated with Texas, a Texas musician living or dead, or a style of music associated with Texas. From that they have created a unique work of art inspired by the concept.

The artists for this exhibition are an eclectic group working in different media including sculpture, painting, mixed media, photography, and digital images. The artists in this show are: Ami Plasse, B Shawn Cox, Billy Ray Mangham, Carl Block, Denise Elliott Jones, Greg Barton, Jamie Lea Wade, Jess Wade, Karen Woodward, Liz Potter, Sylvia Troconis, and TVHeadATX.
