Rachel Marisa LaBine: Lockets

December 14 - February 01,2025

From 12.26: "12.26 is pleased to present Lockets, a solo exhibition of works by New York-based artist, Rachel Marisa LaBine, on view at the gallery’s Dallas location. Lockets incorporates LaBine’s abstract collages alongside a new work of stained glass. LaBine transforms conceptual ideas about space, light, and imagery into vibrant abstract forms that pulse with emotional resonance. For Lockets, she draws inspiration from her teenage years in the early 2000s, infusing the work with personal memory and feeling. Like the cherished jewelry pieces that give the exhibition its name, Locketshouses intimate treasures within its walls. The gallery space becomes a sanctuary for LaBine's works, with natural light from above casting a gentle radiance that embraces each piece. Lockets’ centerpiece is LaBine's most ambitious stained glass work to date: an intricate dahlia comprising 101 meticulously fused pieces. Having begun her exploration of glass in 2023, LaBine continues to push boundaries in her artistic journey, delving deeper into questions of transparency, illumination, and energy. Rachel Marisa LaBine (b. 1987, Grand Forks, ND) lives and works in Queens, NY. LaBine received her MFA from Columbia School of the Arts, New York, NY (2019) and a BFA from the Rhode Island School of Design, Providence, RI (2007). Recent solo exhibitions include Et al., San Francisco, CA (2024); Bibeau Kreuger, New York, NY (2024 & 2022); Fourteen30 Contemporary, Portland, OR (2019); Recent group shows include Naranjo 141, Mexico City (2024); False Flag, Long Island, NY (2021); Night Gallery, New York, NY (2019); Wallach Gallery, New York, NY (2019) The Jewish Museum, New York, NY (2018) among others.
