From Erin Cluley Gallery: "Erin Cluley Gallery is pleased to announce On the Horizon: Contemporary Interpretations of the Landscape a group exhibition of work interpreting the natural landscape. The landscape genre has long and storied roots in global art history: the Chinese tradition dates to the Han Dynasty (206 BCE—220 AD) while the European tradition began in the medieval era. In recent decades, there has been a resurgence of contemporary artists interested in the natural landscape. Many eco-centered art movements reflect on the rapidly changing state of nature in sculpture, painting, photography, and site-specific installation. On The Horizon brings together artists on the Erin Cluley Gallery roster and beyond to survey contemporary developments in the landscape genre. These artists’ work allows us to reframe our understanding of ecologies near and far from us, constructing new ways of seeing. Works included by: JAMES COE (Sydney, Australia) GARY GOLDBERG (Berkley, CA) KAREN GUNDERSON (Coxsackie, NY) RILEY HOLLOWAY (Dallas, TX) EUGENE LEAKE (1911-2005; Monkton, MD) CATHERINE MACMAHON (Dallas, TX) ANNA MEMBRINO (Dallas, TX) NIC NICOSIA (Dallas, TX) ANTONIO TUROK (Oaxaca, Mexico) ZEKE WILLIAMS (Dallas, TX) Erin Cluley Gallery is a contemporary art gallery representing emerging, mid-career, and established artists from Dallas and the United States. The gallery presents a provocative program of artists working in both traditional and alternative forms including painting, sculpture, new media, photography, sculptural installation and public intervention. In 2014, Erin Cluley Gallery ignited a creative movement in West Dallas acting as a hub for visual arts and community engagement. After nearly five years on Fabrication Street, the gallery has moved its operation to Riverbend – a development in Dallas’ Design District celebrating the intersection between culture and commerce. From April 2021 to November 2024, Cluley opened and operated Cluley Projects – a satellite location in West Dallas acting as an incubator space focusing on regional artists and providing a platform for discovery and mentorship."
