Texas craft artists, take note: the Houston Center for Contemporary Craft (HCCC) has announced an open call for CraftTexas 2025, its long-running juried exhibition periodically surveying the state of contemporary craft.
The open call application period begins Saturday, February 1 and runs through Wednesday, April 30. Applications are submitted online through the HCCC website.
Juror Abraham Thomas, the Daniel Brodsky Curator of Modern Architecture, Design, and Decorative Arts at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, will select from among works in clay, fiber, glass, metal, wood, and found/recycled materials for the CraftTexas 2025 showcase exhibition, on view from September 6, 2025 through January 9, 2026.
Craft artists residing in Texas are eligible to apply with an artist statement and three recent works. Stipulations include that the works must fit through a 4-foot-by-8-foot doorway, not exceed 200 pounds, be available for the duration of the exhibition, and have not been previously exhibited at HCCC.
The CraftTexas exhibition “provides an introduction for the general public to develop an appreciation for the depth and breadth of craft being made in their local communities and across the state,” according to the HCCC website, and “strives to broaden the understanding of contemporary craft.”
The application is free, and artists will be notified of acceptance by May 26. Mr. Thomas will also confer three $1,000 Award of Merit prizes.
