New Works 11.2: Andrea Büttner, Kurt Mueller, and Adrian Williams

July 14 - September 18,2011

German artist Andrea Büttner utilizes passive and laborious acts to investigate the aesthetic boundaries between conceptual work and craftsmanship. In Little Works (2007), Büttner taught a nun how to use a video camera. Houston artist Kurt Mueller's text-based installations encourages audiences to actively engage with current and historical American events. In 2009, Mueller encouraged the public to perform in a karaoke version of Martin Luther King, Jr.'s I Have a Dream speech. Adrian Williams often collaborates with musicians; in Albatross Ado (2008) the artist combined a silent film of a house in Patagonia being driven slowly through a town with a custom score for two violas and an upright bass. These three artists were selected for ArtPace by Chus Martinez, Chief Curator, Museu d'Art Contemporani Barcelona.

Opening: July 14, 2011 | 6-9 pm
At 6:30pm there will be a performance by Adrian Williams; at 7:30, an artists' dialog with curator Chus Martínez.
