Neither Model nor Muse: Women as Artists

June 02 - September 12,2010

The McNay challenges renowned art historian Linda Nochlin's 1971 ARTnews essay Why Have There Been No Great Women Artists? in this exhibition Neither Model nor Muse: Women as Artists. For the first time ever a selection of the McNay's works by women artists are brought together through the inspiration of art collector, educator, and watercolorist Marion Koogler McNay. Works by British sculptor Barbara Hepworth and Louise Nevelson (shown) are the highlights along with Kiki Smith, Helen Frankenthaler, and Agnes Martin. Texas favs Margo Sawyer and Dorothy Hood are also included!
