Dynasty and Divinity: Ife Art in Ancient Nigeria

September 19 - January 09,2011

Dynasty and Divinity: Ife Art in Ancient Nigeria makes its U.S. debut at the MFA Houston this September. This major exhibition presents an in-depth view of ancient art from the kingdom of Ife, featuring more than 100 copper, terra cotta, and stone sculptures uncovered in the 1910s and 1930s in present-day Nigeria, most never before displayed outside Nigeria. The exhibition is organized by the Museum for African Art, New York, and the Fundación Marcelino Botín, in Santander, Spain, in collaboration with the Nigerian National Commission for Museums and Monuments, which loaned all of the objects on view.
