The Allure of Paper: Watercolors and Drawings from the Collection

In celebration of its 50th Anniversary, the Amon Carter presents 100 rarely seen light-sensitive watercolors from it's vaults. Curated by the Carter's Shirley Reece-Hughes, the show features big guns from the collection: Winslow Homer, Ed Hopper, Georgia O’Keeffe, John Sargent, Ben Shahn, John Marin, Stu Davis, Jake Lawrence, and Joe Stella, among others.

Capturing Nightlife: Shirley Reece-Hughes, Assistant Curator of Paintings and Sculpture at the Amon Carter explains why watercolor was the perfect way to capture the nightlife of the early 20th century.

Lecture: August 25, 2011 | 6-7 pm
Dr. Charles C. Eldredge, of the University of Kansas reconsiders Georgia O’Keeffe’s watercolor series created while she was teaching art at West Texas State Normal College in Canyon, Texas. Reservations are required; call 817.989.5030 or email visitors@cartermuseum.org.
