Shooting the Moon: Photographs from the Museum’s Collection 50 Years after Apollo 11

"In commemoration of the 50th anniversary of the Apollo 11 moon landing, the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, presents Shooting the Moon: Photographs from the Museum’s Collection 50 Years after Apollo 11. The installation features 40 photographs ranging from documentary images of NASA’s mission to the moon to fanciful pictures including a 19th-century portrait of a man in a solar-themed costume. Notable works include Ansel Adams’s Moonrise, Hernandez, New Mexico; Hitoshi Nomura’s ‘moon score,’ December 19, 1975, representing an intersection of Conceptual art and stargazing; and Cortis and Sonderegger’s recreation of Buzz Aldrin’s first footprint on the moon."
