The Art Trail also includes the Ann Richards School’s young artists program which provides an opportunity for a hands on art marketing. With the help of Christ Lutheran Church the trail will feature the work of talented artists with disabilities from Down Home Ranch and Marbridge Farms along with Art From the Streets which gives a voice to homeless artists.
The Travis Heights Art Trail is a grassroots show, entirely run by the artist. It is one of the longest running neighborhood art shows in Austin. Each year, this city gem showcases some of the city's most creative artists as they open up their homes and studios to the public. “It’s not just about selling art. It’s a community event – showing the community how artists live. Attendees get to come into the artist’s home or backyard studio and see how and where they work,” says Charlotte Bell, Director of the Travis Heights Art Trail. The Trail has become an area tradition, with fans walking along the beautiful and historic streets of the Travis Heights neighborhood.
Specifically, the Art Trail is designed to:
• Create a stronger community of fine artists and craftspeople in the Austin area with commercial and educational benefits.
• Invite visitors to tour the studios of local artists, view their art and have the opportunity to discuss art with the artists who create it.
• To improve the income of area artists and to contribute financially to the local South Congress businesses through increased tourism.
The Art Trail welcomes local business support with all proceeds going directly to event promotion, as the Travis Heights Art Trail is a non-profit organization. It is receiving financial support from SRCC and is sponsored by the City of Austin. “The Cultural Arts Division of the Economic Development Department provides leadership and management for the City’s cultural arts programs and for the economic development of arts and cultural industries.”
In 2019, the Travis Heights Art Trail takes place over the weekend of November 2-3 from 11 am–5 pm. Map, Artists, Sponsors and Info at: http://travisheightsarttrail.org/"
