For a Dreamer of Houses

March 15 - July 21,2021

For a Dreamer of Houses explores the significance of the spaces we inhabit and how they represent ourselves, our values, and our desires. The exhibition takes inspiration from philosopher Gaston Bachelard’s influential 1958 book The Poetics of Space, and its organization corresponds to five chapters that consider the psychological importance of homes. Major recent acquisitions—including works by Alex Da Corte, Olivia Erlanger, EJ Hill, Francisco Moreno, Pipilotti Rist, and Do Ho Suh—are highlighted in each section. Janine Antoni, Diane Arbus, Daniel Barsotti, Romare Bearden, William Christenberry, Alex Da Corte, Thomas Demand, Olivia Erlanger, Judy Fiskin, Maureen Gallace, Dan Graham, John Harkey, Anthony Hernandez, EJ Hill, Gary Hume, Clemetine Hunter, Misty Keasler, Ferne Koch, Vilem Kriz, Annette Lawrence, Jacob Lawrence, Margaret Lee, Sarah Lucas, Francisco Moreno, David Newman, Bill Owens, William Pankey, Robert Pruitt, Pipilotti Rist, Ugo Rondinone, Doris Salcedo, Do Ho Suh, George A.
