Community Under Pressure

A group exhibition featuring work from members of Flatbed Center for Contemporary Printmaking's Press membership. From Flatbed: "Flatbed Center for Contemporary Printmaking presents its first annual Community Press membership exhibition to open August 21, 2020. Despite the Covid-19 pandemic, the members of Flatbed Community Press have been active creating as safely as possible. The Community Press members and Flatbed staff exhibiting includes: Katherine Brimberry, Belinda Casey, Alex Giffen, Caragh Givens, Nell Gottlieb, Mike Hart, Kyle Hawley, Alfonso Huerta, Judith Long, Matthew Magruder, Gabrielle Miceli, Peter Nickel, Maryellen Quarles, and Emily Weiskopf. The work from the members ranges in scale and technique. Although no public reception is planned due to the pandemic, the exhibition will be open the public during gallery hours to four or fewer visitors at a time and also by appointment. Appointments can be made through Flatbed’s website at www.flatbedpress.com/gallery A ZOOM opening with artist interviews is being planned and details will be announced later. The Community Press is a vital part of Flatbed’s mission of to serve artists. When Flatbed moved to its new location at 3701 Drossett Drive in 2019, it opened a dedicated studio space where artists could have access to printmaking equipment for their personal projects. Community Press is now a vital part of the Flatbed Center for Contemporary Printmaking. The center also includes Flatbed Press, the publishing arm of the center and Flatbed Gallery, the exhibition space. At Community Press, members have equipment for creating intaglio, lithograph, relief, screen printing and monotype prints. Membership to the Community Press is open to artists with printmaking experience and Flatbed is currently accepting applications for membership."
