From UTSA: "Susi Lopera's MFA Thesis Exhibition, opening October 22 UTSA's Main Art Gallery is proud to present Susi Lopera’s MFA Thesis exhibition Roots and Feathers. Susi Lopera's sculptures and videos provide viewers with an escape from the everyday, inviting them to experience the unexpected, whimsical, and sometimes tragic. Through her surreal juxtapositions, Lopera explores poetic metaphor in which two things are reduced to one. Wackiness, silliness, and humor are used to disarm viewers, inviting them to access themes that might otherwise be avoided, themes of loss of innocence and disillusionment. Susi Lopera, born in Medellin, Colombia, is a multimedia artist completing her Master of Fine Arts degree in Ceramics at The University of Texas at San Antonio."
