Beth Van Hoesen and Wayne Thiebaud: Friendship and Community

September 16 - January 23,2022

From The McNay Art Museum: "San Francisco artist Beth Van Hoesen (1926-2010) led a remarkable printmaking career. Together with Bay Area artists such as Elmer Bischoff, Richard Diebenkorn, and Wayne Thiebaud, Van Hoesen developed an artist community in the converted firehouse where she lived with her husband, Mark Adams. While sharing studio space and the expense of hiring a model, Van Hoesen and celebrated painter Thiebaud became great friends. Both artists shared a belief that drawing from a live model was absolutely essential to the artist’s process. Beth Van Hoesen and Wayne Thiebaud: Friendship and Community is on view now in the Butt Paperworks Gallery. Stay tuned for Wayne Thiebaud 100: Paintings, Prints, and Drawings, opening October 28."
