15th Annual Rockport Film Festival

November 11 - November 14,2021

From the Rockport Center for the Arts: "Always international in scope, but local in flavor, the 15th Annual Rockport Film Festival once again celebrates the power of storytelling in cinema with some of the best independent filmmaking from Texas and around the world.   Presented by the Rotary Club of Rockport and the Rockport Center for the Arts, the Nov 11-14 Rockport Film Festival features events and more than 40 U.S. and international independent films entered to date, 16 of which are from Texas, with all screenings taking place at Movies Inc Aransas in Aransas Pass.   Endorsed by the Texas Film Commission, the Texas Commission on the Arts, and the City of Rockport, the Festival is an annual cinematic event that has drawn as many as 1,600 attendees including filmmakers and enthusiasts from around the state and beyond. The Festival allows patrons to enjoy films rarely seen elsewhere without having to wait in long lines or navigating multiple theater venues.   "We are ready to once again come together and experience the art of cinema here in Rockport,” said Elena Rodriguez, managing director for the Rockport Film Festival. “This event has become a favorite among locals and visitors. We are pleased to be showcasing the work of many independent filmmakers. With more than 40 entries in seven categories already scheduled, it’s one of the larger events we’ve hosted and we’re looking forward to sharing all this creativity with attendees.”   This year’s categories are documentary feature, narrative feature, documentary short, narrative short, animated short, student film, and music video. All films are independently produced outside of the Hollywood studio system, meaning they are privately financed projects that tend to be smaller in scale and budget.   The event also gives back to the community by providing funding to many free and low-cost programs of the Rotary Club and Rockport Center for the Arts, including humanitarian aid, youth education and scholarships, as well as free and low-cost Arts and cultural programming.   The Rockport Film Festival kicks off Thursday, Nov. 11, with the Red Carpet Event being held at Rancho Tiki, a private residence on Copano Bay. Considered the premiere social event of the fall season, the “tailgating chic” al-fresco film experience features cocktails and food, catered by local restaurants, beginning at 6 p.m., with the screening of a full-length feature at 7:30 p.m. The opening night film, Open Field, features legends of women’s tackle football who played by NFL rules in NFL stadiums for the love of the game and against all odds, with commentary from Franco Harris, former Hall of Fame running back of the Pittsburgh Steelers, and Kyle Shanahan, Head Coach of the San Francisco 49ers.   The Festival continues Friday, Saturday, and Sunday with film screenings held at Movies Inc Aransas, located at 1277 Highway 35 North Bypass in Aransas Pass. Screenings last approximately 90 minutes each and include seven full-length features and four short film blocks of six to nine films. The weekend also features free events including an art crawl downtown on Friday, a panel discussion and reception with filmmakers at Fulton Mansion on Saturday, and an awards ceremony following the final films blocks on Sunday, which are also free to the public.   Tickets are now available for purchase online, including the Red Carpet Event, which is $50 and limited to 200 guests; individual feature and short film blocks for $10 each; plus a limited number of VIP Passes providing priority entry to all events and reserved seating for screenings for $100. Specially priced rooms are available for Festival goers at both the Hampton Inn Rockport-Fulton and Fairfield Inn & Suites by Marriott Rockport.   For tickets and more information, including a complete schedule, go to RockportFilmFestival.com.   2021 ROCKPORT FILM FESTIVAL SPONSORS   SPECIAL THANK YOU: Movies Inc Aransas; Texas Commission on the Arts; City of Rockport; Aransas County; Hampton Inn & Suites Rockport-Fulton; Fairfield Inn & Suites by Marriott Rockport PRODUCER LEVEL: Texas Film Commission; GSM Insurors; The Rockport Group at Morgan Stanley; Sueño de Atzo Tequila; Karen Mella – Realtor; Salemi’s Ace Hardware; Tito’s Handmade Vodka; Holbrook Electric – Safe T Lighting; Mary & Jerry Channell; Deborah Greer DIRECTOR LEVEL: Italian Cowboy Food & Provisions; Friends of the Fulton Mansion; Anita Diebel Studio; First Community Bank; JD Debler; Matthew & Sandy Benavides; Diana and John Macy/Coastal Bend Music SUPPORTING ACTORS: Prosperity Bank; Charter Bank; Purón-Johnston Family; Annette and Eric Engelmann, Marci Griffin; Rockport Cultural Arts District PARTNERS: KIII-TV; 104.7 KVIC-FM; 90.3 KEDT-FM; 89.5 KMFA-FM   About the Rockport Film Festival The Rockport Film Festival is a collaboration between the Rockport Rotary Club and Rockport Center for the Arts.
