"About Splinter Group
Splinter Group began in 1998 with six tenants and 5000 square feet. In 2019, we relocated to our current warehouse of 22,000 square feet, at 3508 East Cesar Chavez Street, Austin, Texas 78702. Splinter Group has been a major destination at the East Austin Studio Tour every year since its inauguration in 2001.
The mission of the Splinter Group is to provide affordable and high-quality workshop space to artisans, craftspeople, and fabricators in Austin, Texas. Splinter Group is a hands-on, makers space. Our tenants are members of a community who share common goals: devotion to craft, full-time professional practice, and willingness to act together. Our members produce handmade works in wood, metal, ceramics, jewelry, painting, and finishes. We have found that the benefits of a shared workshop far outweigh the disadvantages. When we exchange technical knowledge, creative vision, and professional references with each other, our individual practices flourish and grow.
