From PrintMatters Houston: "PrintMatters Houston invites you to join us beginning on June 3rd in celebrating the eighth PrintHouston, a biennial city-wide celebration of original prints, the artists who create them and the people who collect them. We are pleased to announce the Tamarind Institute as our featured guest. They are a division of the University of New Mexico in Albuquerque, NM. Tamarind revived and has kept alive fine art lithography for over sixty years. We will kick-off the celebration June 3rd at Glassell School of Art, 1001 Bissonnet, Houston, Texas 77005 with an opening reception from 6-6:30 pm, and a keynote talk by Diana Gaston, director of Tamarind Institute in Favrot Auditorium from 6-8:30 pm. On June 4th from 12 noon-1 pm, Dr. Dena M. Woodall, curator, prints and drawings at MFAH, and Diana Gaston will discuss the exhibit Celebrating Tamarind Institute at 62 featuring prints by Gertrud Goldschmidt (a.k.a. Gego), Ruth Asawa, Ellen Lesperance, and June Wayne in the MFAH, Kinder Building dedicated Prints and Drawings Gallery. Valpuri Remling, master printer and workshop manager at Tamarind, will give a lecture on lithography in the Print Studio at The Glassell School of Art. As their contribution to PrintHouston 2022, Houston-area galleries, museums and institutions will showcase the diversity of printmaking art forms with exhibits, artist talks and workshops. Those participating and opening June 4 are: Archway Gallery, Burning Bones Press, The Community Artists’ Collective, Ellio Fine Art, Foltz Fine Art, Galveston Arts Center, Glassell School of Art, Hooks- Epstein Galleries, Inman Gallery, McClain Gallery, Moody Gallery, Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, Redbud Gallery. The continuous growth of PrintHouston, with expected attendance of over 5,000 print enthusiasts, attracts national and international artists to participate in the largest printmaking festival in Texas.
