Julie Brook Alexander: The Savoring Project

September 10 - October 15,2022

From Hooks-Epstein Galleries:

"In observance of FotoFest 2022 and kicking off its 2022-2023 exhibition season, Hooks-Epstein Galleries is proud to present the photography-based works of artist Julie Brook Alexander.

The Savoring Project is inspired by Julie Brook Alexander’s passion for discovering visual relationships in nature. Alexander researches the part of nature that she experiences the most—food and the exquisite flavor harmonies its pairings can create. She layers medium format focus stacked photographs of two primary ingredients; the individual photographs blend together as the two distinct elements complement each other. The work in the exhibition further speaks to engaging the senses and being truly present to relish balance and nourishment. Julie Brook Alexander earned a M.A. in Teaching with a Concentration in Art from Rice University (Houston, TX). Her work is included in the Collection of the Museum of Fine Arts Houston, Children’s Museum of Houston, Museu de Arte Moderna do Rio de Janeiro (Brazil), Lehigh University Art Gallery (Bethlehem, PA), and numerous private and corporate collections. Alexander has participated nationally in various group exhibitions. She resides in Houston, TX."
