Geomet-Rumi, Love is the Light in the Heart

From Silver Street Studios: "In your light I learn how to love in your beauty how to make poems you dance inside my chest where no one sees you, but I do and that sight becomes this art" - Rumi Iranian born Fariba Abedin’s work explores geometric abstraction in appreciation of nature and science, color and geometry. Abedin’s Geomet-Rumi series is a visual conjunction of geometry, calligraphy and literature, specifically the poems of Mawlana Rumi. Rumi was a 13th-century Persian Sufi Mystic poet, whose tolerance and passion for humanity fascinated Abedin and deepened her experience of the world. Similar to Rumi, Abedin’s artistic inspiration comes from her own personal, intellectual and spiritual journey. Her colorful geometric art speaks to the soul of all mankind, conveying a message of love, beauty, and peace. Abedin received her Bachelor Degree in Architecture from Massachusetts College of Art and Design, and her Master of Science in Education from Connecticut State University. She has works in numerous private and public collections. Houston Curator and friend, Volker Eisele, writes of Abedin’s work: “Fariba Abedin’s paintings dissect light into its prismatic components. She then re-configures these component colors into sometimes large-scale compositions. Reminiscent of early Bauhaus concepts, especially ideas by Johannes Itten in his book “The Art of Color”, Abedin goes beyond the original Bauhaus premises and articulates novel geometric color fields of her own provenance.” Geomet-Rumi: Love is the Light in the Heart is on view in the West Gallery of Silver Street Studio, Sawyer Yards from April 1st through 29th. A reception will be held on Thursday, April 27th , from 6:00 to 8:30 pm. The evening will feature a recitation of Rumi’s poems in connection to the art, in addition to Persian Sufi music, dance, and light bites. Dance performances will start at 7:00 pm."
