From Basket Books & Art: "Basket Books & Art is pleased to present Portage by William Warden, a selection of new paintings created by Warden while in residence at the Galveston Artist Residency (2022-23). The title of the show evokes the means and act of conveyance: “portage” as transport, path, and portal. Warden’s work addresses painting qua painting: what it is, what it does, and where it can take us. It calls to mind David Joselit’s description of modern painting: “it marks, stores, scores, and speculates on time.” *  Warden’s work serves as a record of inquiry, of venturing forth.  His tools are material and mark – canvas, linen, silk, the stretcher bar – all forging pathways to making, to the specificity of painting. Please join us on Sunday, June 4, to celebrate these compelling explorations."
