Mardi Gras: Unmasked

January 26 - March 03,2024

From the Bryan Museum:

"Nothing says mystery and intrigue quite like a masquerade! This year’s annual Mardi Gras exhibit at The Bryan Museum explores masks – a hallmark of the Mardi Gras season. Masks worn years ago by Galveston socialites as well as custom, modern masks created by artisan designers from across the U.S. will be on display in the Museum’s library. Local masks include a design by costumer Danny Lee Morgan as well as elaborate historic pieces dating back to 1928. Several masks from the Mitchell Foundation harken back to the 80s Mardi Gras heyday on the Island. Masks from master mask-makers Erik Attia of Erik’s Inspiration, Judith Rauchfuss of Leopard’s Leap, historic masks from the Galveston County Museum, and Angela Sasser of Angelic Artisan showcase contemporary styles and mask-making techniques.

We are once again excited to display the winner of the Mardi Gras! Galveston poster contest hosted by Yaga’s Entertainment, Inc., as well as the winning umbrella from the Funky Uptown Umbrella Brigade processional.

Come celebrate the revelry of the season with us at Mardi Gras Unmasked on display at The Bryan Museum."
