From LHUCA: "Smits’ work centers on the concept of care — mothering in opposition to othering. Tell Me Who You Are originates from dedicated research on attachment theory. The attachment behavioral system within our family of origin frames social-emotional and interpersonal development from infancy into adulthood; our way of being in the world emerges from this construct and experience. The exhibition works explore the impact of insecure attachment using reinvented iconic symbols — the artist's father's tools — to mark initial imprints and how understanding creates opportunities for transformation. This exhibition runs from July 5, through August 31, 2024."
